Ausgangslage

The client, an established B2B FinTech provider in Stockholm with 150 employees, was struggling with rising acquisition costs. Customer Acquisition Costs (CAC) had increased by 40% over the last six months, without a corresponding improvement in lead quality.

The main issue lay in tracking: Due to the increasing blocking of cookies by browsers like Safari and stricter data protection policies, a significant portion of conversion data was lost. LinkedIn ads were running, but the attribution model was unreliable. Campaigns were optimized based on incomplete data, leading to inefficient budget allocation.

Umsetzung

We launched an intensive project with a focus on data quality and creative testing. The goal was to make tracking robust and improve creative performance.

Schritt 1: Serverseitiges Tracking implementieren We implemented a Custom Event Tracking system that transfers conversion data directly from the client’s server to LinkedIn. This bypasses browser blocks and ensures that 100% of qualified leads are reported correctly.

Schritt 2: A/B-Testing-Struktur aufbauen We created a structured testing framework. Instead of making random changes, we tested systematically:

  • Headlines: Short and concise vs. data-driven and specific
  • CTAs: ‘Book a Demo’ vs. ‘Get a Quote’
  • Targeting: Job title-based vs. company size-based

Schritt 3: Journey-Anpassung im CRM In parallel, we optimized the lead nurture journey in the CRM. Leads coming from LinkedIn received a personalized email sequence targeting their specific pain points from the ad. This increased the conversion rate from website visit to qualified lead.

Ergebnis

After eight weeks of optimized campaign runtime, significant improvements were seen in the KPIs. The data quality from server-side tracking enabled effective training of LinkedIn’s algorithm.

The key results in a before-and-after comparison:

  • CPL (Cost per Lead): Senkung um 28 % von 450 € auf 324 €
  • Conversion Rate: Increase of 15% thanks to better targeting precision
  • ROAS (Return on Ad Spend): Anstieg um 35 %

The combination of clean tracking and data-driven A/B testing was the decisive factor. The client was able to use its budget more efficiently while simultaneously increasing lead quality.

Learnings

This project demonstrated how important a solid data foundation is for paid acquisition. Without server-side tracking, optimizing LinkedIn ads in the B2B sector is hardly possible in 2024.

Key takeaways for similar projects:

  • Tracking is the foundation: Before investing budget in new creatives, tracking must be functional.
  • Systematic testing beats gut feeling: A/B testing should never be ad-hoc but designed as a continuous process.
  • CRM integration is crucial: Acquisition does not end with the lead. A seamless handover into journey adaptation in the CRM significantly increases the conversion rate.

For B2B companies using LinkedIn Ads, investing in server-side tracking and structured testing is not an option but a necessity to remain competitive.

Results

  • -28 % – Cost per Lead (CPL)
  • +15 % – Conversion Rate
  • +35 % – Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)
